Boston Fire Codes and Requirements…confused?

Recently we have run into a lot of headaches trying to decipher the correct type of smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors required by the City of Boston. After many discussions with inspectors during sales and much time spent searching online, I finally got a somewhat simple to follow matrix from one of Boston’s fire inspectors. I wanted to share it with you so that you can ensure that your building is properly protected to ensure your in compliance with the city and your insurance company. Also if you are  in the process of buying or selling you will want to make sure that your building is up to code as a last minute need to install a type 1 or 2  system can be costly and delay the process.  As a supplement to the attached matrix here is another clip from Mass CMR 527 defining the types of systems and when they are needed.
